PUBLIC ART
MOTHER POD
Nature & Balance 2008
Temporary Public Art Exhibition at the Arsenal Arts Center, Watertown, MA
Nature & Balance was a temporary outdoor exhibition of public art organized by The Arsenal Center for the Arts. The work was installed on the grounds of the Arsenal on the Charles in Watertown, MA. I was selected as one of ten artists to create a site-specific sculpture reflecting the theme, Nature & Balance.
My sculpture, Mother Pod, was a fiber art sculpture created from recycled wool sweaters and blankets sewn over a hardware cloth frame and polyester batting. The sculpture was embellished with wool needle-felted details and embroidery. After the exhibition was over, I completely reworked the weather-beaten sculpture and it is now available for exhibition indoors. This piece marked the beginning of my Nature Regeneration Series. SMILE, BREATHE, SING, TALK, TASTE - a series of five mixed media paintings
LAUGH, GIGGLE, AND GRIN - Installation

For this commission, I created five large mixed-media paintings which are installed in the school's dental lab. An installation of fifteen smaller acrylic paintings hang in the hall directly outside the lab. Those paintings hang as one piece and spell out the words, Laugh, Giggle, and Grin.
My concept for this project was to focus on all of the wonderful things that our mouths allow us to do! We laugh, giggle, grin, smile, talk, taste and breathe with our mouths. All of these positive actions are vitally important to our lives and they work to create a sense of joy and well-being.
